The death toll rose to 12 dead, 12 injured, and 60 injured after a huge billboard fell due to a severe storm in Mumbai, according to what the authorities of the city located in western India, which is considered the economic capital of the country, announced.
Gaurav Chauhan, inspector at the National Disaster Management Authority, said, “The billboard fell due to the wind near a gas station east of the city, and its fall led to dozens of people being trapped under it, dead and wounded.”
Chauhan said, "Ambulance teams recovered eight bodies from under the rubble, while there are still four other bodies that need to be recovered."
The Mumbai Municipality had announced earlier that ambulance teams rescued 60 people and were taken to hospital for treatment.
According to Mumbai Police, “The billboard is huge, 70 meters long and 50 meters wide, and it fell as a result of thunderstorms, rain and winds that hit the city yesterday, Monday.”
