The Khiam Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims and the Qana Observatory for Human Rights have issued a formal appeal to the 47 member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. The appeal calls for urgent action to uncover the fate of more than 32 Lebanese citizens allegedly abducted by Israeli occupation forces between 2023 and 2026.
In their official correspondence addressed to the Council's member states, the two human rights organizations stated: "We urge you to exert all possible efforts to determine the fate of over 36 Lebanese nationals who were abducted by Israeli forces during their military operations against Lebanon in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. To this day, their whereabouts remain unknown, and their families have not been informed of their detention locations. Furthermore, Israel has continuously denied the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) access to these detainees, thereby preventing any assessment of their physical and psychological condition."
The two rights groups expressed their confidence that the international community would respond to their appeal, urging member states to compel Israel to disclose information on all Lebanese citizens forcibly disappeared within its detention facilities, to secure their immediate release, or, at the very least, to permit ICRC delegates to visit them and verify their status.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese capital, Beirut, has witnessed repeated protest vigils outside the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross, held in solidarity with Lebanese detainees held in Israeli occupation prisons. Protesters, mostly family members of the missing, continue to demand clarity regarding their loved ones' fates and their unconditional release. The ongoing demonstrations are accompanied by growing calls for urgent international intervention to apply pressure in this regard.
