Israeli Airstrike Targets Vicinity of Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre, Causing Casualties and Severe Damage

An Israeli airstrike struck a building and a parking lot adjacent to Jabal Amel Hospital in the city of Tyre, resulting in numerous casualties and extensive damage to the hospital and its critical facilities.

Local sources reported that the strike caused a power outage in the intensive care units, temporarily cutting off oxygen supplies to patients. Significant damage was also inflicted on the intensive care wards, patient rooms, the dialysis center, the hospital courtyard, and surrounding buildings.

This attack comes amid heightened military operations in Lebanon, raising concerns over the strain on the healthcare sector and its ability to continue providing essential medical services, particularly in areas near conflict zones.

In response to the incident, Minister of Public Health Rakan Nasser al-Din condemned what he described as “repeated and systematic Israeli aggressions” targeting hospitals, medical and emergency teams, and patients. He expressed appreciation for healthcare workers who continue to carry out their duties under extremely challenging conditions.

The airstrike occurred just days after the World Health Assembly adopted a Lebanese-proposed resolution on the protection of healthcare. The resolution calls for strengthening support for Lebanon’s health system, ensuring the continuity of essential medical services, and preserving the capacity of health institutions to address mounting challenges.
