Lebanese Minister of Information, Paul Morcos, held a meeting with Mohammad Safa, Head of the Al-Khiam Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims, to address the situation of Lebanese detainees held in Israeli occupation prisons. This follows Israel’s announcement that 32 Lebanese nationals, including minors, remain in detention, underscoring the need for immediate official action at both the national and international levels.
During the meeting, Safa urged the activation of diplomatic channels and called for the case to be presented before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. He proposed that Lebanon participate at a high-level and demand the establishment of an international investigative committee. Additionally, Safa recommended that Lebanon consider joining the International Criminal Court to pursue legal avenues.
In response, Minister Morcos affirmed his commitment to follow up on the matter with the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international institutions. He pledged to raise the issue in the Lebanese Cabinet and across various official platforms. Welcoming the proposed international initiatives, Morcos directed immediate coordination to ensure the continuous monitoring of the detainees' case.
