Recently disclosed documents from the U.S. Department of Justice include new footage depicting Ghislaine Maxwell, the associate of Jeffrey Epstein, inside a federal detention center in Brooklyn, New York. The British newspaper The Independent has described this facility as one of the most troubled prisons in the United States.
The surveillance footage, recorded in July 2020, captures Maxwell prior to her transfer to a low-security prison in Texas. This transfer followed an extensive, two-day meeting totaling nine hours with then-Attorney General William Barr's deputy, Todd Blanche.
Maxwell was convicted in 2021 on charges of sex trafficking minors and is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence. Prosecutors accused her of assisting Jeffrey Epstein in the operation of his sex trafficking network. She was frequently photographed alongside Epstein at his Little Saint James island and aboard his private jet during global travels. Images also show her with prominent political and celebrity figures, including Bill Clinton and Donald Trump.
Since her incarceration, Maxwell's legal team has repeatedly applied pressure, seeking either a grant of clemency or a reduction in her sentence.
