Yemeni Shura Council Secretary-General Criticizes Regional Rivalries and Comments on Somaliland Recognition

Ali Abdul Mughni, the Secretary-General of Yemen's Shura Council, has characterized the ongoing tensions in southern and eastern Yemeni provinces as a proxy conflict driven by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He asserted that the factions involved, which he described as tools of these states, have failed to present any viable national project or represent the aspirations of the local population over the past years.

Abdul Mughni further contended that the Israeli government's recognition of Somaliland is directly linked to regional developments. He connected this diplomatic move to Yemen's supportive stance for the Palestinian resistance in Gaza and its impact on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea.

He emphasized that the occupation of these provinces is unsustainable and that the proxy factions will be unable to impose their will on the Yemeni people. According to his analysis, the Yemeni public is fully aware that these groups lack any coherent vision and have been directly responsible for fabricating crises and the subsequent collapse of political, security, and economic conditions over the past decade.

The official stated that after a decade of mismanagement in the occupied provinces, public trust in these entities has been completely eroded. This period, he argued, has exposed their utter incapacity to administer the areas under their control or achieve even minimal stability.

Abdul Mughni issued a stark warning, describing the Yemeni people as a "quiet volcano" that will one day erupt against these proxy tools and their backers.

Regarding the Israeli recognition of Somaliland, Abdul Mughni framed it within the context of regional shifts following Yemen's support for Gaza. He noted that officials in Somaliland have for some time offered Israel significant concessions in exchange for recognition, highlighting the strategic importance of the region overlooking the Gulf of Aden.

He drew parallels between these offers and those reportedly made by the Southern Transitional Council to Israel, summarizing their shared proposition as: "Recognize us, and we will open the country to you." Abdul Mughni firmly stated his belief that such projects are destined to fail.

In conclusion, he expressed confidence that the Yemeni people would ultimately neutralize these regional maneuvers, using a metaphor to suggest they would absorb and nullify the actions of the Israeli government.
