Lavrov: Russia praises China’s achievements under Xi Jinping’s leadership

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed Russia's highest assessment of China's achievements.

"We would like to express the highest assessment and admiration for the successes you [China] have achieved over these years and, in particular, over the past decade under your leadership," the minister emphasized.

"These successes make us happy because they are the successes of our friends, although not everyone shares this attitude and tries to contain China's development. The same is done in regard to Russia’s development," Lavrov added.

The Chinese authorities support the Palestinian people’s wish to have their own independent state and call on the international community to help make this happen, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.

"The international community should support the Palestinian people in creating an independent state by actual actions," he said at a press conference in Beijing following talks with Lavrov.

According to the diplomat, Beijing deems it necessary to settle the Palestine-Israel issue based on UN Security Council resolutions.

"Thus, the Jewish and Arab peoples will be able to co-exist peacefully, promoting longstanding peace in the Middle East," Wang Yi added.
